Eclair (Claire) Farron

Eclair (Claire) FarronClaire Farron, known as Eclair in the Japanese version, but better known by the moniker, "Lightning". She is the aloof twenty year old main protagonist from Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns. Lightning is a soldier on Cocoon at the beginning of the game and her only wish in Final Fantasy XIII is to save her estranged younger sister, Serah. She ends up becoming entangled in a plot that endangers her home of Cocoon.

In Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning serves as a knight protecting the goddess Etro in Valhalla from her fated rival, Caius Ballad. Serah Farron, her younger sister, is the main character in the game and tries desparately to find Lightning because she is the only one of the original cast of characters who remembers seeing Lightning at the end of the first game.

In Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns, Lightning is once more the main character. She is chosen to be a savior by the god Bhunivelze and is tasked to save the people's souls before the end of the world.

When Square-Enix released Dissidia Duodecim 012: Final Fantasy in 2011, Lightning was added as the playable character representing Final Fantasy XIII as a Warrior of Cosmos.

Lightning is voiced by Ali Hillis and Maaya Sakamoto, respectively, in the English and Japanese versions of the three Final Fantasy XIII games and Dissidia Duodecim 012: Final Fantasy as well.
